GOOD NEWS - 26th October

One of Fleetwood's most popular community events is celebrating a very special anniversary this weekend ... with the 200th Fleetwood Promenade parkrun taking place on Saturday 28th October at 9am.

The parkrun is a great way to improve fitness, enjoy the fresh air and stunning coastal views and to make new friends. It doesn't matter what your time is, there's the same, great sense of achievement at the finish of the 5k course. And it's all made possible thanks to the team of amazing volunteers, on the day and behind the scenes.

If you'd like to get involved, this week or in the future, please visit the parkrun uk website for all the information and to register for a FREE barcode that means you can take part in any event, anywhere!

With the school half-term holidays in full swing now, between the showers there's been some lovely Autumn weather to make the most of our outdoor spaces.

However, keeping the children amused might be a challenge so a reminder that younger residents from FY7 postcodes can enjoy FREE swimming at the YMCA, supported by Fleetwood Town Council. The offer is available during all the school holidays - you do need to register in advance and provide proof of residency before attending the swimming session.

Looking ahead to next week events include two huge, local fireworks displays.

It's the last chance to pick up one of the pieces in the Fleetwood Market House Studios silent auction. Created by talented local artists the paintings and works are on display in the market today, tomorrow and until 1pm on Saturday 28th October when bidding closes. Call in to see them and to make a bid for a piece - more on Facebook here.

Pop along to Fleetwood Methodist Church on Saturday 4th November for their winter market. Browse the stalls, pick up a gift item and enjoy the activities from 11am to 3pm. There's also a very tasty menu of hot food available on the day from the Happy Cook!

Fleetwood Town FC hold their firework event at Highbury Stadium on Thursday 2nd November from 5.15pm including live music from The Deadbeats and The Jeps performing on the pitch, plus more acts and children's entertainment. This is a ticketed event - more details online here.

Then on Sunday 5th November is a FREE display at Marine Hall Gardens from 5pm to 8pm - funded and hosted this year by Fleetwood Town Council.

Completing a hat-trick of mentions for Fleetwood Town Council ... Lord Street is looking fantastic, decorated with a display of huge poppies ahead of Remembrance Day. Thank you to the Council and the team of volunteers for all their hard work over the last week, a wonderful tribute to those who fought in the armed services.

Last winter several Fleetwood venues opened as Warm Hubs, offering drinks, food and activities.

Working with Wyre Council we are now pulling together a list of locations for the upcoming months and into 2024. The information will be shared in the form of a leaflet widely distributed across the Town, by banners displayed at the venues and also published online. If you can offer a welcoming and safe public setting, with at least the option for a hot drink - days and hours to suit you - contact us to chat more and to be added to the list. Please email your details to listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk no later than 3rd November.

It's our next Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting on Wednesday 1st November, 6.30pm at Emmanuel Church, Mount Road, Fleetwood. All welcome to come along, share your news and ideas, find out what's happening in the community and get involved! It's FREE to attend and free refreshments are available too.

There are several Facebook links above, if you're not on the platform and would like more information, please contact Healthier Fleetwood at listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk and we can put you in touch with the group or event organisers.

Keep sending in your GOOD NEWS to share with the community.

We look forward to seeing you all soon ... take care.
