GOOD NEWS - 16th March

This week some of the Healthier Fleetwood team joined a video call to follow up on the NHS Creative Voices project.

Fleetwood is one of just a few neighbourhoods asked to help launch the project which encourages individuals, families and groups to express their thoughts on health, wellbeing and community through the arts.

Locally, we're hosting a series of free Creative Voices events and workshops using different media and the next one is on Saturday 25th March at Fleetwood Library ...There are two sessions of family-friendly painting led by local creative artists: watercolours with Heather at 10am and gouache paint with Wakin at 12 noon, each will run for about 90 minutes.

The themes are "Why do you Love Fleetwood?" and "What would you like to see in a Future Fleetwood?"

Before you take your work home, we'll be getting plenty of photos so the pieces can support discussions about our Town. Places are free, all materials will be provided but the sessions do have are limited availability on the day. Children are very welcome, accompanied by an adult. We are looking forward to seeing all the amazing creations and suggestions and sharing some with the audience of an NHS video conference at the end of the month.

We've been hearing a lot of good news from Jules at Fitness 50 lately, and there was more this week with the successful launch of a new Couch to 5K group. Around 30 local residents of all ages joined the first event held last Sunday, taking advantage of a break in the cold weather. Suitable for beginners and those who need to build up their fitness, there are two events each week - Wednesdays at 7am and Sundays at 9.30am, always starting from the Broadway Medical Centre. To find out more about the Couch to 5k and all of the opportunities with Fitness 50. > See the Facebook page here or call Jules on 07484 821156.

Keep Britain Tidy 2023 begins this week and among a number of initiatives from Wyre Council, there's a community litter pick coming up in Fleetwood.

The theme of this year's campaign is collecting ONE BAG of litter can make a BIG DIFFERENCE. Residents and community groups are invited to join Sandra, Wyre's Cleaner Greener project manager, for the event on Thursday 23rd March, from 10am to around noon - meet at the Fisherman's Walk clock tower to get involved. All equipment will be provided - please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather and the task.> Find out more about the Keep Britain Tidy campaign here

The Behind Closed Doors team are preparing for a sponsored 'sea dip', in aid of the local refuge ... and they need your help!

It's also on Thursday 23rd March, 11am, meeting point is at the sunken car park near Dronsfield Road, Fleetwood. Adults only for the dip but all welcome to spectate and donate if you can, no matter how small. Bring your friends, family, or nip out of work with your colleagues and join in for a great cause. Please wear costumes/wetsuit/t-shirts, hat, beach shoes/trainers, bring a towel and hot drink. Funds raised will support life-saving accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic abuse - somewhere safe and warm, and a positive environment. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be made on the day or at the group's funding page on Facebook. Mandy from the group says ... "So far there is a few of us taking part, although the more the merrier ... see you at sea!"

Plans are being made for events and activities over the Easter holidays and we will share more news of these from next week but an early mention of a couple ...

A range of Holiday Clubs will run from 3rd to 14th April across Fleetwood and Wyre - free for primary and secondary-aged school children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals. The sessions include a variety of fun activities alongside a nutritious meal each day. It's a great opportunity for young people to get out and about, to get active and to meet new friends.
