GOOD NEWS: 7th August

Hello again, we hope you are safe and well.

Very much like the weather at the moment we have a mixed bag for you this week. One or two updates on groups and projects happening in Fleetwood and also some opportunities for training and to support ideas from across the Fylde Coast.

If you are out and about over the next week, enjoy the sunshine ... and showers!

WHEELS ON THE BEACH Plans to launch a beach wheelchair service to Fleetwood moved forward in the last week. The charity behind the idea have their first chair and held a demonstration event by Marine Hall - a couple of families taking the opportunity to try the specially adapted equipment.

MAKING MEMORIES

In the early weeks of the COVID emergency, Healthier Fleetwood helped set up a group of the Town's residential care homes, NHS leads and other partners. We now meet on-line every 2 weeks looking at ways to work together and for introductions to useful contacts.

This week we welcomed Jimmy from Lancashire Memories to hear about the weekly reminiscence videos he's been producing. The videos use music, film clips and memorabilia to prompt conversation and happy memories. You can find out more on his Facebook page or visit the website.

YOUR VIEWS CAN HELP Disability First is carrying out research to identify how they can develop a building or space to support the needs of people in Lancashire.

They aim to create a ‘One-stop-shop’ for a wide range of disability-focused services and activities in a welcoming, non-stigmatised environment. To help take this project further ideas from the local community are very welcome.

To contribute to the discussions please complete the short on-line survey and you can also leave your contact details to be part of focus groups in the future.

KEEPING FLEETWOOD TIDY Local councillors have been busy delivering supplies of the 'mini-bins' to businesses and venues. These are pocket-size wallets designed to hold chewing-gum or cigarette stubs until you can dispose of them appropriately. If you'd like a supply contact Fleetwood Town Council through their website.
