GOOD NEWS: 21st August

This week we've been delighted to be part of several discussions about making connections in our community. The events of the last 6 months have undoubtedly knocked the confidence of many residents and seen Fleetwood's vibrant network of groups, activities and events disrupted. Thankfully we're seeing signs of recovery and the resilience of the community as venues reopen and opportunities to reconnect increase every day ...

THE ART OF WELLBEING A group of local organisations met during the week to look at how the arts can be used as a way of reconnecting the community. It was clear from the discussion that it will take time and even in this period of relative calm, many individuals do not feel confident to get out and about so it's small steps forward.

Projects such as Healthier Fleetwood's ANON (above), and many others supported by LeftCoast, Regenda and Wyre Council have given residents the chance to be creative and improve their wellbeing. In the weeks ahead these partners and others will be launching new projects for those who feel they are ready to re-engage however the challenge is to reach the individuals who would really benefit from these opportunities but lack the confidence.

We would like to hear from any individuals or organisations interested in helping the partners to reach out and ensure as many people as possible can get involved and benefit. If you would like to be part of this discussion please email your contact details to listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk

VISIT FLEETWOOD MUSEUM One of the local venues that has reopened recently and has always been a huge part of our community is Fleetwood Museum. Check out their opening hours and information on their website including the new exhibition on Fisherman's Friend. Also see the Link Magazine for a FREE family ticket offer to visit the Museum.

Healthier Fleetwood also hosted a very enjoyable meeting on Zoom this week with some of the local groups who bring residents together for friendship and support. Of course our monthly open meetings have been suspended so this was an opportunity to recreate the sense of community and positivity from those events. Local resident Pauline Kennedy chaired, keeping the conversation bubbling and we heard from Shirley of Harmony & Health; Fran of Friendlier Fleetwood; Helen from SASS; Karen from the Fleetwood Wellbeing Way; Lucy from Westview Community Association and Wendy & Lisa, Fleetwood's social prescribers.

Although 'meeting' on Zoom, the members of Harmony & Health are desperate to start singing together again and some of them may look at attending the socially-distanced Friendlier Fleetwood coffee mornings while the SASS ladies will be taking up the challenges of the new Fleetwood Wellbeing Way.

In a short time there were lots of good ideas to support each other and we look forward to sharing more about these groups in the weeks ahead and the positive outcomes from everyone working together.

KEEP DOING GOOD The National Citizen Service team with Fleetwood Town Community Trust have been busy over the past two weeks supporting their local community.

They have planned and delivered social action projects which aim to support residents through mental health challenges in particular. Well done to everyone involved.
