GOOD News: 4th August

Residents taking the lead in the community, improving their health and wellbeing, and that of others is central to the spirit of a Healthier Fleetwood.


A huge thank you to Adam Diver, Craig Broomhead and Sean McGann who are hosting a FREE family fitness session starting this Sunday morning and then every Sunday in August at Marine Hall Gardens. The sessions start at 10am and are for all ages and all abilities. There's no need to book, just come along and have fun while you get fit. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear, children under 16 should be accompanied and water is being kindly provided by the Fleetwood Beach Kiosk.


Sunday is also the start of Wellbeing Week at Affinity Lancashire ...


Healthier Fleetwood is pleased to have introduced several community groups taking part and we will be opening the Community Information Centre on Sunday from 11am to 2pm, joined by the lovely folks of the Fleetwood Wellbeing Way to pass on their news and future plans.


On Tuesday 11th, Crown Ballroom will be hosting demonstrations of various styles of dance including Streetdance, Cha Cha, Latin, Tik Tok and Waltz.


You can also join in and enjoy the music alongside the experienced dancers. The sessions run from 11am to 2.00pm and are all free!


On Wednesday, members of Friendlier Fleetwood will be with us at the Centre.


They've been meeting in the outdoors for a few weeks now and more recently restarted the indoor coffee mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Senior Citizen Hall, Warrenhurst Road.


The wonderful Harmony & Health singers will be bringing their own special kind of joy on Friday 13th!


They will be singing in the square between 11am and 2pm and would love visitors to join in and find out more about the group.


Access to the internet has been invaluable during lockdown and it can be frustrating when things go wrong.


The guys from West Fleetwood Computer Clinic will be in the Information Centre on Friday 13th, 11am to 2pm passing on their advice and tips for keeping your devices running smoothly and can also provide devices for people who need them.


And of course we'll be passing on information and contact details for the many groups, activities and events in the local community, MacMillan Cancer Support will be with us on Tuesday for their weekly drop-in session and Wendy & Lisa, Fleetwood's social prescribers will also be available to offer help.


Good to see more of Fleetwood's most popular events restarting again.


The Fylde Coast Food & Drink Festival is at Marine Hall and Gardens on Sunday 15th August showcasing some of the finest food and drink from across our region. It's free entry to visitors, 10am - 4pm. If you are interested in taking a stall, contact: helen.bowler@wyre.gov.uk


Another of Fleetwood's much-loved venues is looking for volunteers to support a new project.


'Mapping Memories' is an exciting new project from Fleetwood Museum which will collect resident’s memories of the town centre from the 1950’s up to the present day - it's the first part of a 3-year program of events to be delivered by the Museum.

Lancashire Mind is recruiting for a number of rewarding, paid roles across the County.



The Fylde Coast Career Academy for Health & Social Care is offering an exciting learning opportunity.


The Level 2 Cancer Awareness Qualification is useful for volunteers or staff members and funding is available for individuals earning under £17,374pa.The course will be starting Tuesday 14th September and will be 2 days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday) from 10am - 2.30pm for 6 weeks, based in Blackpool. Places are limited - for further information please contact bridgette.wright@blackpool.ac.uk


Lastly, a date for your diary ... Healthier Fleetwood Open Meetings will resume on Wednesday 1st September, 6.30pm at Emmanuel at the Mount.
