GOOD NEWS - 30th September
Hello again, Autumn is definitely here now but there are still plenty of things to do, inside and outdoors, whatever the weather!
Wyre's 'Great Outdoors' events listing for October is now available.
Health walks, bike rides, beach cleans, nature and conservation days, fascinating heritage walks and family fun for the Half-Term holiday and Halloween from Wyre Council and their partners. > See the Events page on the Wyre Council website for more details
Wendy and Lisa, Fleetwood’s social prescribing link-workers, invite you to join them for a Coffee Morning on Friday 8th October.
It’s at Emmanuel at the Mount from 10am to 12 noon - you’ll find out more about their role and the services available to residents in Fleetwood as well as meeting some of the local community groups and organisations available to help.
There will be free tea, coffee & biscuits - no need to book, just turn up!
The team at Fleetwood Library have done a terrific job supporting the community and continuing to offer services for much of the last 18 months.
Even when opening times were limited, the ‘Six of the Best’ book ordering scheme was a great way for people to enjoy the benefits of reading. Now with many of the social distancing restrictions lifted the library is welcoming the community back, to browse the books, CDs and DVDs, use the computers and even just to meet up with friends again. Some of the popular events and group activities are resuming including Fun Palaces this Saturday - the best way to find out what’s happening is pop in for a chat with the friendly staff at Fleetwood Library.
The Fleetwood Trust is asking the community what they’d like to see available in the former hospital building.
They will be launching 'The Big Chat' in October to hear from residents living in Fleetwood and organisations working in the Town what facilities should be included in the ‘Community Hub’ spaces.
Look out for announcements from the Trust on their Facebook page and website about how to contribute to the Big Chat.
Thank you to everyone who baked, donated, volunteered and supported our Macmillan coffee morning last week.
The total raised on the day was an amazing £730 which will make a real difference to the work of the charity. A special thank you to Katie's Cafe at Affinity who have made an additional donation from their takings on the day.
Good luck to Dr Mark Spencer ahead of running in Sunday’s London Marathon.
Mark is also raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and if you’d like to contribute, please donate on-line here.
Congratulations to the volunteers who wanted to place a defibrillator at Fleetwood Boating Lake by Dolly’s Kiosk earlier this year …
… they’ve now raised enough for 5 of these life-saving pieces of equipment to be installed around Fleetwood and are still working hard planning more events and activities.
Fleetwood Town Council is inviting nominations for their annual Community Excellence Awards.
It’s a great way to recognise individuals going above and beyond to support their friends and neighbours. Last year, awards went to 1st Fleetwood Scouts Leader Belinda Armstrong and young people from Westview Community Association.
Applicants can be nominated until Friday the 22nd of October by emailing Lauren Harrison: cedo@fleetwoodtowncouncil.org.uk
This Friday, 1st October between 12 noon and 2pm, we welcome the volunteers from Fleetwood Museum for a Mapping Memories workshop at our Community & Wellbeing Information Centre, Affinity Lancashire.
The project is collecting stories from residents and visitors to create a digital memory map of Fleetwood Town Centre. Please call in and get involved!
STOP PRESS: There's also a workshop on today, Thursday 30th September from 2pm to 5pm at The Mount Pavilion.
We have some news of our own … the Information Centre at Affinity is on the move!
At the end of this week, we’ll be closing at the current location and preparing to REOPEN, TUESDAY 12th OCTOBER in a new unit, a little further round the shopping outlet. You’ll be able to find us past Katie’s Café/The Works/Regatta, opposite Bon Marche and next to the Sweet Emporium - that'll test our willpower!
We'll be there for the rest of the year taking in the Half-Term holidays and the run up to Christmas. More details and images of the new unit will be shared once we’re all settled in and we already have several partners and events booked in.
Our thanks to the management team at Affinity for their continued support, we look forward to seeing you all soon.
Lastly, a reminder it's our next Open Meeting coming up on Wednesday 6th October from 6.30pm at Emmanuel at the Mount - all welcome!
Please join us to find out about some of the many great things happening in your community and to share your ideas!
Until the next time, take care.
