GOOD NEWS - 18th November

We start with congratulations to the team behind The Sanctuary Space in Marine Hall Gardens last weekend.

This new and innovative event combined visual arts and live entertainment under a huge marquee.

During the day there were creative workshops and partners available to engage with visitors and share their work then in the evening, the free music and comedy to enjoy. Centre-piece was the Doors exhibit, a collection of old front doors, brilliantly and in some cases, movingly reimagined by local community groups.

Putting on an event like this, especially for the first time, involves an enormous amount of work for all concerned and was greatly appreciated by the audiences.

The Inside Out exhibition at the former Fleetwood Hospital was one of the highlights of the year so it’s fantastic news that Inside Out 2 opens today.

Brought together by LeftCoast and creative artist Gillian Wood, supported by the Fleetwood Trust, owners of the building, the exhibition will once again showcase the amazing work of local residents.

Opening hours for Inside Out 2 are 10am to 3pm every Thursday and Saturday until 11th December, via the Atrium entrance of the hospital on Bold Street.

Great to see Fleetwood Library continuing to resume their popular program of groups and activities.

The creative writing group will be meeting again from Friday 7th January, 10.30am until 12noon and then on the first Friday of each month.

Before that there’s a FREE exercise group at 2pm on the next two Mondays - 22nd and 29th November - with local personal trainer Julie Brooks. It’s a low-impact session, suitable for most people, places are limited and must be pre-booked at the Library. Call in to find out more about the forthcoming activities.

The Prince’s Trust is recruiting now for their next 12 week TEAM programme based at Fleetwood Community Fire Station.

This is for 16 to 25 year olds who are unemployed, not in training or education and is an opportunity to take part in activities such as orienteering, caving, climbing, abseiling, and canoeing as well as undertaking community projects, and learning valuable skills for the future.

Please contact project support worker Katy Nelson for more information. Email to Katynelson@lancsfirerescue.org.uk or call 07900 268707.

Lastly a reminder that we still need to be vigilant to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the vaccine van is back in Fleetwood next week.

It will be at Marine Hall car-park on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th November between 1pm and 7pm. (Also on Friday 3rd December). Adults, 16 years and over, eligible for their first or second dose of the vaccine can attend without an appointment.

Until the next time, take care.
