GOOD News: 13th May

With the latest date in the recovery roadmap approaching, great to hear that Fleetwood Museum will be reopening next week, on Tuesday 18th May. As well as a chance to browse the many fascinating artefacts from the Town’s history, the venue will launch a new exhibition for 2021 - 'This Lass Can: Stories of Fleetwood Women'

This is the history, stories, struggles and triumphs of Fleetwood women. From pioneering boxer Jane Couch and Doreen Lofthouse of Fisherman’s Friend, to the stories of unsung heroes in the community, it's a celebration of our wonderful women.

Healthier Fleetwood and the lovely folks of the Fleetwood Wellbeing Way are working together to spread a little sunshine across the Town.We have some sunflower planting sets to give out from the community information centre at Affinity Lancashire Outlet.

Just pop in on a Tuesday or Friday between 10am and 4pm to collect yours. On September 1st measure the height of your sunflower and send in a photo if you want to be the winner of our competition! You can find us in the first unit on the left after Claires as you enter Affinity.

The information centre at Affinity is becoming a popular place to call in now and we hope to be announcing some extended hours and days soon as well as supporting events at the outlet. We’ll be sharing the first date for the Harmony & Health singers and the talented, local artists of ANON will be restarting their sessions in the next couple of weeks.

If arts and crafts is for you, the new Market House Studios is also offering classes for fun, and to support health and wellbeing.

Wyre Wheels resumes this week. This is a cycling program offering participants the opportunity to ride adapted bicycles including trikes, side-by-sides, hand bikes, quad and wheelchair bikes.

This week was International Nurses Day, an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the incredible work of nurses everywhere. The COVID vaccination program continues with NHS staff and their partners and volunteers in Fleetwood working hard to keep us all safe and well. The latest figures show 15,422 residents registered with a Fleetwood surgery have now had their first jab, and 9,269 have had both. It's a fantastic effort by everyone involved to deliver this, very well supported by the community.

It’s also been Mental Health Awareness Week 2021 with its theme of Nature and the environment.

The pandemic has probably affected everyone’s wellbeing to some degree and it’s not been easy to stay positive but in a community like Fleetwood help is available. Sometimes a friendly chat, or taking part in an activity might be enough to raise your spirits but there are specialist agencies and organisations for extra support and you can find many of these listed on our website. Until the next time, take care ...
