ADVENT CALENDAR: Day 2

As we write everyone will be getting home after this week's Fleetwood Promenade parkrun event. We've mentioned before the benefits of taking part but Day 2 of our Advent Calendar is the perfect opportunity to thank the volunteers who turn out in all weathers to support the community.

The idea of a Fleetwood parkrun was looked at many years ago by groups and organisations, ourselves included, but it only really went forward when local residents took the lead. 5 years on a wonderful group of people give up their time to host the free, weekly events along the promenade from Marine Hall to just past Rossall Observation Tower and back.

Roles include marshaling out on the course to make sure everyone is safe and other users or the space are aware of the event, as part of the start/finish team, and admin and promotion behind the scenes. Everyone supports and encourages those taking part from the first person home to the last, running or walking, there's the same sense of achievement.

Volunteering for the parkrun is about an hour and a half on Saturday mornings from 8.30am, it could be just once a month or whenever you can help and it's a great way to start your weekend!

Everything you need to know about getting involved is on the official parkrun UK website at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/fleetwoodpromenade/volunteer/ or pop down next Saturday and have a word with one of the team.

We hope all the volunteers (and runners) from this morning's chilly event enjoy a hot drink and a great weekend - thank you.
