RAY OF HOPE
At our recent open meeting we had the pleasure of hearing from local resident Ray about his reasons for getting involved with Healthier Fleetwood. His story is a great example of what we are hoping to achieve through the partnership, encouraging people to take more control of the decisions that affect their health and wellbeing.
Without wishing to embarrass him Ray's journey in the last year or so has been remarkable to the point when he now tells a room full of people about overcoming a number of issues and clearly growing in confidence. In fact the week before he spoke alongside Dr Mark Spencer and Alison Halliwell from the Mount View surgery team at a conference in Liverpool (see the pic) to an audience of around 300 and stole the show!
The conference was looking at the growing movement of Social Prescribing which, if it's a term new to you, is basically non-clinical ways to improve a person's health. Gardening, walking football, singing, arts & crafts, coffee clubs or volunteering would be just some examples and there are loads of great projects and groups in Fleetwood offering this route to better health.
We are committed to the principle of social prescribing and with amazing people like Ray to inspire us we can get to where we all want to be .... a Healthier Fleetwood.
