GOOD News: 15th October

One of the many wonderful things about Fleetwood is the people you meet with a passion for their community. This week, we've been delighted to hear from two individuals working on new ideas to support those around them ...

'Waking The Warrior' is a new, free 10 week course for women who want to take control of their own lives and choices led by Lisa Bennett. The first sessions took place today (15th) and tomorrow but don't worry, you can join in over the forthcoming weeks. There’s more information here and to get involved contact Lisa Bennett on 07828 470154 or email lbspokes@outlook.com

As we approach Remembrance Day and it’s associated events, Age UK Lancashire has launched a new programme of support for veterans ... ‘Removing Barriers’. This will help veterans aged 50 and over across a number of areas of everyday life, as well as their families and carers.

Further details are available on the Age UK Lancashire website and the local coordinator is Claire Chantrell who can be contacted on cchantrell@ageuklancs.org.uk.

The Pantry, a new home for the combined Fleetwood Foodbank and the Mustard Seed, is now open in the former Fleetwood hospital. The facility will be operated by volunteers from Faith in the Community, distributing weekly food deliveries to residents in need as well as being a point of contact for additional support.

Blackpool and The Fylde College are recruiting for their next ‘Talent4Care’ programme starting on Monday 9th November. This is a 5-week sector-based work programme for anyone aged 19 and over who would like to gain qualifications and future careers in health and social care.

Earlier in the year we were pleased to share the amazing work of the Fylde Coast Scrub Hub and Sewing Team. This lovely group of volunteers have been making essential items for NHS workers during the COVID pandemic, led by Fleetwood-based creative artist Gillian Wood and supported by the LeftCoast arts collective.

Until the next time ... Take Care and Stay Safe.
