GOOD NEWS - 7th October

Thank you to everyone who attended our Open Meeting yesterday evening at Emmanuel at the Mount.


As always we heard about some of the amazing, inspirational community groups and projects and ideas for new activities. A full summary of the meeting will be shared across our social media and website in the next few days and our next meeting will be at Emmanuel, 6.30pm on Wednesday 3rd November, all welcome.


Preparations for reopening our Wellbeing & Community Information Centre at Affinity Lancashire are going well.


We’ll be in the new unit (opposite Bonmarche) from 10am on Tuesday 12th October and can confirm more details of opening times and forthcoming events in next week’s Good News. Macmillan Cancer Support will continue to be with us on Tuesdays for a drop-in session and here are a couple of other dates to mention …


On Friday 15th October – the fine chaps from West Fleetwood Computer Clinic will be with us to help with your technology issues.


In particular, they can help to maintain your tablets, laptops and devices in good order and advise on the basics of getting connected to and making the most of the internet. Call in from 11am - 2pm.


Saturday 16th October is 'World ReStart A Heart Day 2021' and we're supporting Lancashire Adult Learning and North West Ambulance Service to train as many people as possible to save a life.


Liz, a qualified First Aid teacher from Lancashire Adult Learning will be with us at the Information Centre, Affinity between 10.30am and 1.30pm to deliver sessions on what to look out for and do should you need to act in an emergency. There's no need to book, just turn up although we will allocate places on the day according to demand.


Before that, North West Ambulance Service is holding two online sessions for the public which will give you the skills to help save a life, if you are with somebody who has a cardiac arrest.


The dates and times are Wednesday 13th October at 6.30pm / Friday 15th October at 10am on MS Teams - you can access these through your browser without an account.


There’s an opportunity to join the team at Fleetwood Town Community Trust, as Youth Engagement Mentor to deliver their new Secondary School provision.


The full-time role will engage young people through intervention, mentoring and development. Closing date is Monday 11th October at 5pm.For further details of this role please email john.hartley@fleetwoodtownfc.com or see the Vacancies page on their website.


The Trust is also launching a new coffee morning from next week in association with the Trinity Baptist Church on Fleetwood Road.


Pop along on Mondays from 10.30am to 12 noon for free tea & coffee and chat. All ages are welcome to attend. Contact emma.hickson@fleetwoodtownfc.com for information.


Two opportunities to catch up with Fleetwood Museum’s Mapping Memories volunteers in the next week or so ...


Join them between 12 noon and 2pm on Fridays 8th and 15th October to share your recollections and stories of Fleetwood – there are further dates and venues running into November. Exciting plans are underway to start using the memories as the inspiration for artwork and further community projects.


Lastly a reminder of the coffee morning at Emmanuel at the Mount, tomorrow (Friday 8th October), with Wendy & Lisa, Fleetwood’s social prescribers.


Call in between 10am and 12 noon to find out more about their role and the support available from several partner organisations working in the community. Free refreshments will be available.
