FREE SWIMMING FOR PORT YOUTH

Youngsters in Fleetwood will be entitled to free swimming sessions at the town's leisure centre during school holidays for a year.

The scheme at YMCA Fleetwood Health and Fitness Centre on The Esplanade has been made possible thanks to a £2,500 grant from Lancashire County Council secured by the member for Fleetwood, Lorraine Beavers. It will come into effect from Easter in April and cover 13 weeks over school holiday periods such as Whit week, the Summer holidays, Christmas and February half-term 2018.

Coun Beavers said, "It is essential that as many people as possible learn how to swim and that they can afford to attend swimming sessions."

This follows a similar scheme last year when funds were secured to cover free swimming over the summer holidays.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
