HEALTHIER FLEETWOOD AMONG NOMINATIONS FOR AWARDS

We were delighted to be among the organisations and individuals short-listed for the General Practice Awards 2018. Healthier Fleetwood has been nominated in the The Collaboration with Patients and Other Providers section for our work in the local community. The awards,now in their 10th year are presented by Cogora, one of the UK’s leading full-service healthcare marketing agencies. They celebrate the very best examples of innovation, dedication, and leadership taking place in primary care. Also nominated is Dr Mark Spencer for Healthcare Leader of the Year and the Mountview Primary Mental Health Team for the Respiratory Care Award. ANON: THE ARTS COURSE BY AND FOR FLEETWOOD RESIDENTS

Healthier Fleetwood has been awarded funding to deliver an arts course for local residents in recovery from alcohol or substance abuse and would like to thank Red Rose Recovery for the funding and their support. The ANON course will run for 12 weeks starting from Tuesday 11th September at the Fylde Coast YMCA Lofthouse building on London Street, Fleetwood. Talented local artist Heather Christian will lead the course which use a variety of mediums to help those taking part gain confidence through art and if they wish, be part of a celebration exhibition at the end of the course. HELP SHAPE A NEW OPEN SPACE FOR FLEETWOOD

A number of local partner organisations are working together to create 6 new open spaces in Fleetwood to support residents health and wellbeing. One of the proposals is a specially designed sensory garden at Memorial Park and Fleetwood residents are invited to contribute to the planning process by completing a brief on-line questionnaire - it really will only take a couple of minutes to take part. You can find the questionnaire here - it closes on 31st August so please contribute. Funding for the 6 open spaces was awarded to Healthier Fleetwood by the Walney Extension Community Fund supporting projects in Cumbria and Lancashire.

PARKRUN LAUNCHES IN FLEETWOOD!

A new parkrun has got off to a flying start as over 150 people turned up to take part in the first Fleetwood parkrun earlier this month. This new event has been organised by Wyre Council in conjunction with parkrun and Healthier Fleetwood who are now encouraging people of all ages and fitness levels to come along and take part. Setting off on the promenade outside Fleetwood YMCA at 9am every Saturday, Fleetwood’s parkrun is part of a worldwide series of 5k events. It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing or how fast you go. SALSA YOUR WAY TO HEALTH ... TRY IT FOR FREE!

Fleetwood residents are invited to join a new dance class and discover the benefits to their health. Noches de Salsa are bringing their successful mix of lessons and social dancing to the Town supported by Healthier Fleetwood. Following the success of the recent Afternoon of Dance when residents enjoyed taster sessions of several styles this is the first of what could be many dance-based classes. IDEAS IN ACTION ... COMMUNITY ANGLING GROUP

Healthier Fleetwood is supporting a new sea angling group, being set up by residents, for residents and there's a meeting soon to find out more. Local resident Steve stood up at one of our recent open meetings and told everyone about a condition called 'fishing-pox' which sees sufferers head out to the coastline in all weathers to enjoy their past-time but this is not just for experienced anglers. It's about young people, families and anyone who wants to try something new, enjoy the fresh air and improve their health & wellbeing. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them.
