Healthier Fleetwood is about improving the health and well being of each and every individual in the town. There are lots of things that we can all do to keep ourselves well, but what happens when we become ill. This is when we turn to the NHS for care, help and support. Even in a small town like Fleetwood there are a multitude of NHS services. For example we have 3 GP practices, 6 pharmacies, 2 dental practices, a community nursing team, mental health services, physiotherapy and many others. All of the health care professionals and managers within these separate services have agreed to work in a much more coordinated and joined up way in order to address the health needs of the town. Fleetwood's biggest day of the year will see tens of thousands of people in the Town to enjoy a mix of transport, heritage & the arts on Sunday 15th july, 10am to 4pm. ​ Healthier Fleetwood will be there! ​ Our thanks to the organising committee for allocating us a space infront of the old Post Office at the South End of Lord Street, close to the Fisherman's Walk tram stop. ​ We'll be sharing the local activities, groups and events to support residents health and wellbeing and will have loads going on during the day too. Have you heard of Beach Wheelchairs? These amazing, adapted chairs allow people to enjoy the coast and the sea in a way many of us take for granted. There are a few places around the UK with the chairs, one of the most successful projects is in North Berwick near Edinburgh as pictured. Fleetwood Rotary, Wyre Council, Fleetwood Town Council and Healthier Fleetwood are supporting a new group to bring some of these chairs to Fleetwood for residents and visitors to use. Please join us for a cuppa at the next 'Chatter Cafe' morning on Friday 29th June, 10am to 12 noon at the YMCA Lofthouse Building on London Street. It all be very relaxed, just a chance to talk with friends and neighbours, meet new people and find out a little more about some of the many groups, activities and events in the Town supporting your health and wellbeing. Some of the Healthier Fleetwood team will be be there and one or two partner organisations but if you just want to sit quietly and enjoy a brew, that's fine. We're planning our next big event ... Fleetwood Loves Dancing, a free afternoon of dance, movement and music to support residents' health & wellbeing. This will be at Marine Hall on Sunday 22nd July from 2pm to 6pm and include local groups and individuals presenting short sessions of many styles of dance for you to try. The event is for all ages and all abilities ... never danced before but always wanted to have a go, this is for you ... want to make new friends, this is for you ... need to improve your fitness but not into gyms and jogging, this is for you! ​You'll enjoy salsa, streetdance, ballroom, modern, disco, tango and much more. Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
