All residents are invited to attend our next event, an open meeting, at the Broadway Rooms by St Nicholas Church, Fleetwood on Tuesday 7th March from 6pm until around 7.30pm. We'll welcome you with refreshments and start around 6.15pm with some introductions from residents already actively involved, a few brief announcements and then it's over to YOU! What do you want to see happen in Fleetwood to support your health & wellbeing and more importantly, what are you going to do to MAKE IT HAPPEN! HELPING TO CREATE A HEALTHIER FLEETWOOD

Healthier Fleetwood is working with a number of partners to find out what matters to residents, the effects it can have on their health and wellbeing and help plan for the future. We want the services in Fleetwood to represent the needs and views of residents, to be part of shaping future services and of course you are the best person to ask, "what could make you healthier and happier?" Last year we launched a survey to help guide this and many residents got involved. The survey is available again now to continue the work that's been started. FREE ADVICE AND SUPPORT FOR VOLUNTARY GROUPS

Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde CVS have been funded through Lancashire County Council’s Central Gateway Fund to provide advice, support and training to voluntary sector organisations in Wyre and Fylde. Simon Lawton was at our recent Tea & Talk event to explain more about this opportunity. Advice is available, free of charge, to any non-profit organisation based in Wyre and Fylde. Topics covered will include governance, policies, fundraising and bid-writing, planning, marketing and monitoring. TEA & TALK ... AND A SPOONFUL OF SUGAR IS JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED!

Around 200 people attended our Tea & Talk event at Marine Hall on Valentine's Day. Residents were able to meet and chat with over 25 local groups and organisations helping to promote better health and wellbeing, sharing some of the fantastic work going on in the Fleetwood community Tea & cake was served at the tables to create a lovely atmosphere before a couple of speeches which included local GP Mark Spencer bursting into a short rendition of the Mary Poppins classic! The whole room then joined in with the wonderful Harmony & Health singing group for a sing-a-long before lots more conversation at the tables. IDEAS IN ACTION .... SUPPORTING FAMILES TO COPE

Another local group set up by and for residents is also making progress. COOT stands for Challenges of our Teens and sets out to offer support and a chance for families with young people going through troubled times to share their experiences. Local resident Mandy had the idea and has now arranged a meeting for Friday 23rd February, at Westview Community Association on Eden Avenue from 10am to 11.30am. This first meeting will be to see how the group want to go forward and the idea is to meet every week. IDEAS IN ACTION .... FLEETWOOD 'WOMEN ALOUD'

The new women-only group set up by and for Fleetwood residents now has a name ... Women Aloud. The next meeting will be at the Health & Wellbeing Centre on Dock Street on Thursday 8th March at 1pm. This is an opportunity to make new friends in a safe, friendly environment and hear from our line-up of guest speakers sharing practical advice on a variety of subjects. Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
