It's generally true that people who lead happy and active social lives enjoy better health than those who do not. From the start we've been encouraging residents to take up an activity or make new friends and therefore improve their wellbeing - this is in essence Social Prescribing. We're now taking this further by setting up a more structured path initially starting with patients attending their GP. Healthier Fleetwood would act as a signposting service to local groups and events, provide support for the individual by encouraging them to get involved and sharing the positives outcomes so the whole community can benefit. You won't be surprised that we concentrate our efforts on projects that benefit the residents of Fleetwood but across the region, similar work is on-going including Wyre Council's 'Together We Make A Difference'. Do you have an idea for a community project? Are you helping out in your neighbourhood? We want to meet you! From 5 to 8 December, the Together We Make a Difference team will be hitting the road to meet and chat to residents and community groups about what great work is happening in their neighbourhood, and to seek out Wyre’s community heroes. The idea is to kick start a database of community assets, for example, a list of people and groups that are doing and want to do positive wor

At one of our open meetings local resident Richard Christy suggested the idea of a table tennis group, not competitive, just for fun. Healthier Fleetwood put him in touch with The Well, Lancashire Sport and the YMCA at Fleetwood and everyone has worked together to make it happen. Alongside the badminton courts there's a table out every Tuesday afternoon at the YMCA from 12.15 - 1.15pm and we were also happy to help by buying some new bats and balls. If you fancy a game pop in or contact us for more details. Have you got an idea for a new community activity or event - we can help with contacts, promotion and possibly funding. For more information see our Community Fund page. FEBRUARY 2018 UPD

Here's a quick summary of everything (well almost everything) you need to know about Healthier Fleetwood on one page! Our next open meeting is on Tuesday 7th November at the Sea Cadet base, Princes Way, Fleetwood and please note the earlier start time, 2pm. The meeting is for everyone - residents, local groups, organisations and businesses. We'll update you on projects and plans for the months ahead but we always allow plenty of time for people to speak about their experiences and stories, what's making a positive difference to their lives. Please come along if you can, bring a friend or colleague and get involved. We will have one more meeting before the end of the year and it will be a spe

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
